Ultra 40 Liver Tablets - $43.95
Desiccated Liver has been a training secret used by thousands of bodybuilders for more than
four decades!
Why? Because it works ... naturally! All of us have gotten carried away at one time or another with
trying to find that one magical or secret  supplement that will give us the incredible muscle and
strength gains that we're more than willing to work so  hard to achieve, but just don't seem to
come quick enough. Some of the newer supplements on the market (creatine being the best
example) do work incredibly well for many people. However we always remind our clients that for
continued gains they must stick with the basics of good bodybuilding nutrition. And for more than
four decades desiccated liver tablets have been a mainstay of good bodybuilding nutrition.

If we could turn the bodybuilding clock back a few decades, we would be able to clearly see how
liver came into prominence as a sports nutrition supplement. Stories from some of the old
timers telling of phenomenal gains being made on 100 plus liver tablets a day are very
common. (These were the 7.5 or 10 grain tablets, an intake of 25 -30 Ultra 40 tablets per day
would equate to this amount due to the higher potency now available.) Strength, size, and
endurance increases are always reported when an individual gets on a good quality desiccated
liver supplement.

What is Ultra 40?
Ultra 40 liver tablets are one of the most potent training aids for the bodybuilder. The formula is
an extract which contains only trace amounts of fat and cholesterol, but forty-five times the
nutritional value of whole beef liver, yet with all the nutrients and enzymes of raw liver. Ultra 40
has more going for it than any other food supplement being very high in useable bodybuilding
protein (2 grams per tablet) of the highest quality (it contains all the essential amino acids). It's a
strong blood builder supplying heme iron. It is a very rich source of B vitamins, especially
riboflavin, niacin, B-12, and the lipotropics choline and inositol. It's a good source of vitamins A,
C, and D and other micro-nutrients. Ultra 40 is also extremely rich in minerals such as the anti
oxidant selenium, phosphorous, copper, zinc, and GTF chromium (insulin regulator). In addition
to these
known nutrients, there are substances present in liver shown to have a beneficial effect on
health, fitness, and endurance such as cytochrome P-450 and others that have yet to be
identified.
According to Vince Gironda, the "Iron Guru", desiccated liver contains nucleic acids for proper
amino-acid utilization, a growth factor and an anti-estrogen factor, which keeps testosterone
levels high, and it is also a great anti-toxin.

A classic research study
In a classic experiment, Dr. B. H. Ershoff demonstrated that liver extract was able to boost
strength, endurance, performance, and resistance to stress and disease. In a nutshell here's
how this occurred:
Dr. Ershoff took three groups of rats and fed them controlled diets for a twelve week period.
Group one ate a basic diet fortified with vitamins and minerals. Group two ate as much as they
wanted of the same diet plus B vitamins and brewer's yeast. Group three ate the basic diet but
had 10% desiccated liver added to their rations.

Then the doctor placed the rats one by one into a drum of water, out of which they could not
climb. Therefore, it was either swim or drown. The group one rats swam an average of 13.2
minutes before they all drowned. Group two, an average of 13.4 minutes. Group three, however,
were still swimming at the end of two hours, at which time the experiment was concluded. Now
either the group three rats had watched the fate of their counterparts very closely, or the liver had
something to do with them swimming almost 10 times as long. As far as we know, no other
supplement has even come close to liver in improving endurance.

Mass Amino Acid Tablets - $44.95

Simple-but-effective amino acid supplementation can double your rate of muscle growth...

Research has proven that protein hydrolysates are more than twice as effective as the next best
form of protein supplement for increasing nitrogen retention and lean tissue. So why haven't
yours worked?

Supplement Facts

In the early '80's, articles touting the effectiveness of amino acids started appearing in almost
every issue of the various bodybuilding magazines. Numerous supplement companies came
out with their special amino formula.
Nearly all promised a quick and easy solution to rapid muscle growth. Bodybuilders responded
with enthusiasm. By the end of 1989, more than twenty-five various brands could be found in
Health Food Stores, Gyms, and magazine advertisements. Today, we see very few articles and
advertisements praising the effectiveness of various amino formulations. The latest research,
however, has confirmed in large part what was being said in the "80"s. Peptide bond amino
acids (protein hydrolysates) are in fact the most effective form of protein supplementation!  So
what's the deal?
Peak nitrogen retention
Rapid tissue repair
Less muscular soreness
Production in the liver of somatomedin C, the anabolic growth factor that stimulates muscle
growth
Sparing of muscle tissue protein
Higher workout energy levels and a better pump
Greater mental alertness

Why have amino acid formulations been virtually abandoned in the "90"s for all but contest
preparation?  Because there are very few products on the market that actually emulate the
formulations used in the research.
A quality protein hydrolysate must be produced from at least one of the following sources: Egg
Albumin (Egg White), Casein (Milk Protein), or Lactalbumin (Whey Protein). In most cases this
has not been a problem.

The real problem
To provide the benefits listed above a product must be a true hydrolysate, readily available for
your body to use. The scientific measure used to determine this is the amount of nitrogen found
in the tablet. This profile is referred to as Amino Nitrogen/Total Nitrogen rating. The
Amino/Nitrogen/Total Nitrogen ratio is the key to determining how good your amino tablet or
capsule really is. It is also the reason that your amino has not lived
up to your expectations, regardless of the number of milligrams it provides.
Is your supplement a true hydrolysate?
Only protein hydrolysates yielding an Amino Nitrogen/Total Nitrogen rating of 30% or higher
should be considered, anything less is basically intact protein requiring substantial digestion by
the body, negating the effects of a true hydrolysate. Pancreatin, the enzyme used in the
hydrolyzation process, mimics the digestive action of the human body. This
results in a repugnant odor and strong taste in the true hydrolysate. To check the quality of a
protein hydrolysate whether in powder or tablet form, if it tastes sweet or almost
pleasant, be suspicious!

Are protein hydrolysates really worth it?
Heck, yeah! One of the most hyped products of the "90"s is hydrolyzed whey protein. In every
magazine, every health food store, and at every gym you'll see these products. Almost every new
product and even reformulations of old products are being heavily marketed to emphasize the
advantages of using protein hydrolysates. The exact same research that was stated in the
header of this article is now being used to promote these newer products. Remember, it is the
hydrolyzation process that really makes a quality peptide bond amino product twice as effective
for muscle growth than ordinary protein powder. A quality hydrolyzed protein product whether in
tablet or powder form should reflect a high Amino Nitrogen/Total Nitrogen rating. The industry
average is in the 10-15% range. This is not going to work for you unless you are genetically
superior in digesting, assimilating, and utilizing protein for tissue repair. To be worth your time
and money you should look
for a product that is at least in the 30-40% range and then use enough of it to see results.

How's This Work In The Real World?
We've had excellent results using Beverly International's Mass Amino Acid Tablets with drugfree
bodybuilders looking for increased lean body mass and enhanced recovery from high intensity
training. Mass has an Amino Nitrogen/Total Nitrogen rating of 49.6%, the highest we've found
and more than triple the industry average. We recommend a minimum of one tablet per ten
pounds of bodyweight. To maximize your body's nitrogen balance
and retention take four tablets with each of four - five meals daily. Most of the champion athletes
who visit the Beverly International Nutrition Center take Mass tablets along with Ultra 40 liver
tablets year round for added lean mass gains.

MUSCLE MASS BCAAs: Your Partner in Muscular Growth
"Now, Build Muscle While You Train With Beverly's Muscle Mass BCAA Formula."
Taking Beverly's Muscle Mass BCAAs during your training is one of the most effective methods
to build lean muscle tissue that we have come across.
Over the last decade, sports nutritionists have studied certain nutrients that can improve your
results from exercise during the "window of opportunity" before, during and after your workout.
Simply stated, for the non-steroid bodybuilder who wants to add lean mass while reducing fat
levels the most important of these nutrients by far are the amino acids Leucine, Isoleucine and
Valine, collectively known as the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs).

BCAAs consumed during training raise both growth hormone and insulin at the same time,
hence increased anti-catabolism and anabolism. (In short, more muscle growth and less
muscle tissue breakdown.)If you are on a reduced-calorie diet, BCAAs can contribute to a
greater loss of fat while maintaining your strength levels. Even more compelling is that the
greatest amount of fat loss comes from the abdominal and thigh regions, two areas of concern
for many men and women.BCAAs lead to relatively higher muscle testosterone levels and an
increased ratio of testosterone to cortisol. Think of it: Using BCAAs during heavy training makes
more testosterone available for protein synthesis while it increases amino acid uptake for
increased muscle growth. An Italian study showed that BCAAs consumed during training lead to
greater increases in lean body mass and strength in drug free bodybuilders.

Try Muscle Mass for Yourself…Here’s How!
General Training - To create a favorable nitrogen and hormonal environment for growth and
recovery: Take 5 Muscle Mass tablets with your pre exercise meal and 5 additional Muscle Mass
tablets with your post exercise meal.

For anyone who wants lean muscle mass gains with concurrent fat loss: Successful research
studies have concluded that a dosage of 0.2g BCAAs per kilogram of bodyweight is effective for
positive effects on lean muscle gain, strength and fat loss. That translates to exactly one Muscle
Mass tablet per 10 lbs. bodyweight during training.

If fat loss is your primary goal take the entire dose on an empty stomach 10 minutes before you
start to train.

If a combination of muscle and strength gains with some fat loss is your goal take 2 or 3 Muscle
Mass tablets every 5 or 10 minutes during your training session until you have taken the correct
amount for your weight.  (Note: Charles Poliquin recommends up to double this amount for
maximum lean mass gains in elite athletes.)

Why is Beverly’s Muscle Mass absolutely the best-branched chain amino acid on the market? Its
ratio of Leucine to Isoleucine and Valine is the absolute optimum for lean muscle gains. It’s
made of the absolute best Pharmaceutical Grade raw materials available. It is totally free form
insuring that Muscle Mass is rapidly metabolized in the muscle tissue not in the liver.

No doubt about it, if you want to increase your lean body mass and lose fat, Beverly’s Muscle
Mass is the way to go. The harder you train, and the more extreme your diet becomes the more
you need Muscle Mass

Muscularity BCAA's- $39.95

The sensible insurance policy to save your muscle during rigid precontest dieting and training ...

During precontest dieting it is essential to keep your protein intake high. In fact, as your body fat
becomes lower and lower, it seems almost impossible to continue to hold on to your hard
earned muscle tissue. The paradox is that as the contest approaches, you instinctively train
harder, increase your cardio and tighten your diet even further. Your goal is to somehow
maintain, or even increase your lean muscle tissue while continuing to burn fat. Unfortunately
you're putting your body at the brink of catabolism. Research provides us with incontestable
evidence that a practical solution is at hand.

What the research tells us Research has found that BCAA's will positively influence protein
synthesis. This suggests that supplementation with Beverly International's two premier
Branched Chain Amino Acids, Muscle Mass and Muscularity will help bodybuilders in a catabolic
(breaking down) state or a muscle wasting state.
- In the Proceedings of the Nutrition Society, 42:473-487, 1983, an experiment was described in
which humans were given therapeutic amounts of these amino acids each day. Fifty percent of
the administered load of BCAA's was utilized by skeletal muscle and the other appeared to be
utilized by tissues that were undergoing protein wasting. This indicates that your muscles would
benefit from the administration of the BCAA's during contest dieting.

In the study, Nitrogen Sparing Induced Early in Starvation by BCAA, D.G. Sapir, Metabolism,
1977, 26:301308, they treated obese people on a starvation diet with supplementation via the
BCAA's. This induced anabolism and nitrogen sparing, so the subjects burned body fat and not
muscle. The study seemed to conclude that most diets should include BCAA administration to
insure that the weight loss would be fat and not lean muscle tissue.

Goldberg in The Regulation and Significance of Amino Acid Metabolism in Skeletal Muscle, Fed.
Proc., 37:23012307, 1978, stated, "The metabolism of BCAA in muscle appears of particular
physiological and clinical interest because these amino acids have the special ability to
promote positive (anabolic) balance in this tissue."

Another recent study at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, may give us clues to
the dosage of amino acids necessary to produce a performance-enhancing effect. They found
that an amino acid dosage of 0.2 grams per kilogram of bodyweight per day, or a total of roughly
18 grams per day for a 198-pounder produced optimum results. This is very consistent with the
established dosage of many bodybuilding champions who take 20 - 25 branched chains daily
when preparing for competition.
How's this work in the real world?
As impressive as the above research is, it's only a smattering of the evidence that exists
regarding the ability of BCAA's to preserve muscle tissue during dieting situations. Some of the
mistakes that you may have made in the past if you tried branched chains and experienced little
benefit:

Using BCAA's while in a positive caloric balance is not going to enhance gains noticeably.
Using a bogus product is not going to produce results under any condition. Branched chain
amino acids are expensive. Stick with Beverly International's Muscle Mass or Muscularity and
you'll definitely get the real thing. Using too small a dose will not give you the results you're
looking for. Be sure that you use a dose commensurate with the University of Connecticut study -
approximately 9 grams per 100 pounds of bodyweight. Most real free form amino acid tablets
contain 700 - 900 mg per tablet. So a realistic dose is about 1 tablet per 10 pounds bodyweight.
